Obtaining a RIPE NCC certification will prove your skills to a network of Internet professionals. You will earn a verifiable digital badge that you can easily share online.

You can register and take an online proctored exam at any time. Once you take the exam, you will be able to see your results instantly, and if you are successful, you will be able to receive and display your digital badge!

IPv6 Fundamentals

Certification Exam

An IPv6 Fundamentals certificate shows that you are proficient in calculating IPv6 subnets according to current best practices and creating IPv6 adressing plans.

This exam certifies the ability to design a high level strategy to protect an IPv6 network against common threats. A holder of this badge has demonstrated the ability to identify and analyse common IPv6 Security threats and their impact, and create a plan to counter them.

Where can I find materials or a guide to help me to study/prepare for the exam?

Please visit the page corresponding to the exam that you wish to take. You will be able to download the exam guide at the bottom of the page.

Is it compulsory to take the exam?

This is completely optional. You can choose if you want to take the exam or not. However, please note that in case you would like to obtain your certificate then yes, you would have to take and pass the exam. The benefits of doing the exam is to validate the expertise and the skills that you have gained through working with the RIPE NCC, specifically the RIPE Database, in this case. The RIPE Database is used throughout our service region and beyond and many LIRs have become experts in using it for their operations. We are creating certifications that can help you prove the knowledge and that will give you advantage in the current job market.

Is the certification mandatory for LIRs?

The certification is not mandatory but optional for LIRs.

How much does the exam cost?

All our LIRs are entitled to three vouchers per LIR account each year. The exams have no cost when using a voucher.

Can I buy bulk vouchers for my organisation to certify my staff?

It is not possible to buy vouchers. If you are interested in obtaining more vouchers than your yearly amount please contact us.

I would like to register for the webinars / online courses, where can I find my RegID?

The RegID is confidential and we are only able to share it with persons who are listed as contact persons in the LIR Portal. If you are not listed as a contact person, we advise you to ask the contact person within your company to provide you with the RegID.

I have multiple LIR’s, why have I received vouchers for only one LIR and not the others?

We have emailed all registered LIR contact persons with three vouchers for one of their LIR accounts. If you have more than one LIR account, please email us at exams@ripe.net to request the vouchers for your other LIR accounts. We will only give the remaining vouchers to registered LIR contact persons.

Do you have sample questions for the exam?

We currently do not have sample questions for the exam. You can find information about the exam on this.

My voucher code is not working on the platform, why?

Is the exam available for non-members?

If you're not a member of the RIPE NCC and wish to take an exam please contact us at exams@ripe.net.

I am under 16 years of age. Can I take the exam?

The RIPE NCC operates under GDPR. If you are under 16 years of age we will need parental consent. For more details on this please contact us at exams@ripe.net.

If I fail the exam, am I able to register for a new exam right away?

Yes, you will be able to register for a new exam right away using another voucher.

Until when are my vouchers valid?

The vouchers are valid until the 31st of December of each year.

If I lose my vouchers, can I recover them?

Yes, we can resend you your vouchers, if you are a registered LIR contact person for your LIR. Please contact us at exams@ripe.net.

In the past I acquired a certificate through the RIPE NCC Academy. Are these equivalent to the digital badge?

No, the RIPE NCC Academy certificates issued between 2014 and 2019 are not equivalent to the RIPE NCC Certification badges. If you want to receive a badge, you will need to take the new certification exam.

What is the difference between the certificates we were able to receive before 2019 and the current RIPE NCC Certification programme?

Our testing services became more professional and currently programme we are able to verify the identity of the test takers and to ensure the exams are taken in a secure environment. All of the content and the process to create the exam was also modified and updated. We currently follow a very strict process of questions and test creation.

Can I take the exam using only the webcam from my laptop?

Yes, you will be able to take the exam using your webcam integrated in your laptop. A second external webcam is not necessary.
