We foster cooperation among electricity transmission system operators in Europe

About us

ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators, represents 40 electricity transmission system operators (TSOs) from 36 countries across Europe, thus extending beyond EU borders. ENTSO-E was established and given legal mandates by the EU’s Third Package for the Internal Energy Market in 2009, which aims at further liberalising the gas and electricity markets in the EU. Due to unbundling and the liberalisation of the energy market, the transmission system has become the meeting place in which the various players interact. ENTSO-E members share the objective of completing and ensuring the optimal functioning of the internal energy market. They also support the ambitious European energy and climate agenda. Through deliverables such as long-term network development plans (TYNDPs), pan-European network codes, coordination of research and development plans, EU-wide system adequacy, etc, ENTSO-E is contributing to building one of the world’s largest integrated electricity market, the benefits of which will not only be felt by all those in the energy sector, but also by Europe’s overall economy, today and into the future.

  • ⚡ Lessons Learned from Ukraine’s Synchronisation with the Continental Electricity System 🇺🇦🇪🇺 Today, 19 May, ENTSO-E participated in the Conference on Energy Security: Lessons from Ukraine, hosted at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Represented by Board Member Kristin Munthe, ENTSO-E joined fellow speakers from NPC UKRENERGO, the German Government and Stromnetz Berlin GmbH to reflect on the lessons learned from Ukraine’s synchronisation with the Continental European electricity system. 🔎 Three key takeaways from today’s exchange: 🔹 Ukraine’s synchronisation proved decisive in stabilising the system under wartime conditions, demonstrating how cross-border integration enables emergency support, flexibility, and system resilience ⚡🛡️ 🔹 The rapid, collective action of European TSOs showed the power of strong operational coordination, robust emergency protocols, and shared commitment in times of crisis 🤝🌍 🔹 Progress toward full electricity market integration and market coupling is enabling Ukraine to better balance its system 🔌📈 🙏 We would like to warmly thank the German-Ukrainian Energy Partnership Secretariat and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy for convening this important discussion on system resilience and energy security. #ENTSOE #Ukraine #EnergySecurity #Electricity #PowerSystem #EnergyTransition #SystemResilience #EuropeanEnergy #TSO #GridStability #MarketIntegration #EnergyCooperation #Berlin #EUenergy

🔌 How do we build a resilient supply chain for Europe's electricity grid? On 6 May, ENTSO-E welcomed system operators, manufacturers, suppliers, policymakers and regulators to Brussels for a Joint Stakeholder Workshop on grid supply chains, co-organised with the EU DSO Entity, T&D Europe and Europacable. The dialogue took stock of progress under Action 13 of the European Commission's Action Plan for Grids (https://lnkd.in/efp-njxx) and the Joint Roadmap (https://lnkd.in/eqetdbP6), and looked ahead to the priorities that will shape a stronger European grid ecosystem. Stakeholders welcomed the increased visibility across the value chain, while also noting important progress on harmonisation efforts for HVDC project tenders and prequalification processes. A first assessment on harmonisation of HVDC project tenders and PQ, type testing and range of approval for extruded HVDC cables at 525 kV has now been completed and will be available for public consultation. Key threads from the day:  📊 Greater investment visibility across the value chain, building on the second edition of the ENTSO-E Investment Pipeline Survey and the EU DSO Entity’s supply chain data platform ♻️ Circularity and sustainability 🛒 Public procurement, the Industrial Accelerator Act and NZIA implementation 🔒 Physical and cyber security of critical infrastructure, and the availability of spare parts Special thanks to Patricia Labra (Chair of ENTSO-E’s System Development Committee), Branislav Pilát (ENTSO-E Asset Implementation and Management Group Convenor), Emil Tan (ENTSO-E Grid Infrastructure Specialist) and Alina Neagu (ENTSO-E Grid Infrastructure Manager), as well as our TSO experts Anne-Louise Modvig Clement, Marcela I. MANTILLA M., PhD and Jürgen Kucklinski, for helping drive an open and constructive exchange. We also thank colleagues from DG ENER - Joachim Balke, Zuzana Sádlová and Ilija Jovančević - together with our co-hosts Europacable, EU DSO Entity and T&D Europe, and all participants for their valuable contributions throughout the day. Finally, many thanks to Renewables Grid Initiative , International Copper Association and EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM for moderating the parallel sessions.  The work continues.  #SupplyChain #EnergyTransition #ElectricityGrid #ENTSOE
