Registry operators are the organizations that maintain the master database of all domain names registered under a particular generic top-level domain (gTLD).

Prospective Registry Data Escrow Agents (DEAs) must apply for consideration to become an ICANN-approved Registry DEA. Registry DEA applicants must meet the legal, technical, and insurance requirements as outlined in Specification 2 of the 2017 base gTLD Registry Agreement to be able to accept and store daily deposits from registry operators.
